from looking at the sprites you could mix a male fighter from battle lords or masters I forget which name of the game but I think you know from genesis and the sprites from the guy riding the tiger and make it battle cat. He can ride the whole time which would be cool.
I thought Jentai from Weapon Lord would make for a cool Big Barda. I don't know if Jentai iconic enough to be a guest character on her own right
Based not needing to edit sprites - Sailor Moon, Mai from Fatal Fury (you might have to rip this one - sprites look SF2ish but not sure on size) Storm from X-Men Arcade
Unfortunately older games only had one token female. Sorry about Black Canary not being done
What about Maki and/or Lucia from Final Fight??? ;)
